O proposito desse artigo é examinar a partir do pensamento político de Hannah Arendt a distinção entre esfera pública e esfera privada, e o modo como na modernidade a esfera da vida privada alcançou uma significação pública jamais tida antes. Para tanto, iniciamos pela divisão que os gregos e os romanos faziam dessas duas esferas, dando mais ênfase para os gregos, onde as questões relativas ao campo da vida privada jamais podiam adentrar ao domínio público. Portanto, é somente na modernidade (...) que a esfera pública tornou-se apenas uma função da esfera privada, possibilitando, assim, que a vida e a necessidade ascendessem ao centro da questão política. O presente artigo tem por objetivo discutir o conceito de natalidade e sua relação com o fenômeno revolucionário a partir do pensamento de Hannah Arendt. Para tanto, laçaremos mão de algumas obras de referência da autora para pensar tal categoria, a saber: Origens do Totalitarismo (1951), A condição humana (1951) e Sobre a Revolução (1963). Para Arendt, o conceito de natalidade está diretamente relacionado a capacidade dos indivíduos de iniciarem coisas novas no mundo, isto é, de serem iniciadores de um (...) mundo inteiramente novo. O fenômeno revolucionário moderno, por sua vez, representa um novus ardo saeclorum, uma novidade que se tornou possível por meio da ação conjunta dos homens e da capacidade de começar própria daqueles que são os recém-chegados ao mundo. Portanto, nosso problema consiste em constatar a centralidade do conceito de natalidade no pensamento político de Arendt, bem como sua relação com o fenômeno revolucionário moderno. (shrink)

O artigo tem por objetivo discutir acerca da população em situação de rua no que tangencia o debate racial no contexto da pandemia do coronavírus covid-19, à luz da teoria das relações étnico-raciais (raça e racismo). No campo metodológico utiliza-se a hermenêutica de profundidade de J. B. Thompson e complementado por sete relatos de pessoas em situação de rua, heteroatribuídas e/ou autodeclaradas negras, localizados na página do Facebook (SP invisível), entre os anos de 2021 e 2022. Os relatos localizados sobre (...) o debate racial, considerando a pandemia do coronavírus-19 e, as iniquidades em saúde e educação dessa população nos revelam que as condições de viver, adoecer e morrer da população negra no Brasil refletem contextos de desigualdades sociais e de um racismo estrutural que são expressos em iniquidades em saúde, educação, direitos humanos, e de lacunas dados étnico-raciais que aumentam a invisibilidade de pessoas em situação de rua no país, como observado pela revisão de literatura do campo investigado. *Pesquisa realizada e artigo redigido a partir dos estudos de Pós-doutoramento do autor no Centro de Estudos Sociais (CES) da Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal) no âmbito do (Projeto 725402 - POLITICS - ERC-2017-2023). The aim of this text is to investigate a little-known aspect of John Locke’s work: the relationship between philosophy and his medical practice. This theme is justified because his philosophical conception is widely known, but his studies in the field of medicine are practically ignored in Brazil. To accomplish this task, the article is divided into threeparts: in the first, we will address the debate on English medical practice in the seventeenth century; in the second, Locke’s penchant for medicine and, (...) finally, in the third, Locke’s medical practice. Fear to contamination is an easy-to-provoke, intense, hard-to-control, and extraordinarily persistent fear. A worsening of preexisting psychiatric disorders was observed during the COVID-19 outbreak, and several studies suggest that those with obsessive–compulsive disorder may be more affected than any other group of people. In the face of worsening OCD symptoms, there is a need for mental health professionals to provide the support needed not only to treat patients who still report symptoms, but also to improve relapse prevention. In this line, (...) it is recommended to improve alternative strategies such as online consultations and digital psychiatry. The aim of this study is to develop augmented reality stimuli that are clinically relevant for patients with cleaning OCD and assess their efficiency to obtain emotionally significant responses. Four AR stimuli were developed: a plastic bag full of garbage, a piece of bread with mold, a dirty sports shoe, and a piece of rotten meat. All stimuli were shown to a clinical group and a control group. Relevant results were the design of the AR stimuli. These stimuli were validated with the statistical difference in perceived anxiety in the meat stimuli between the clinical and control groups. Nevertheless, when looking at effect sizes, all stimuli present effect sizes from small to large, with both shoe and bread between small and medium effect sizes. These results are a valuable support for the clinical use of these AR stimuli in the treatment of cleaning OCD. (shrink)

This paper develops the very basic notions of analysis in a weak second-order theory of arithmetic BTFA whose provably total functions are the polynomial time computable functions. We formalize within BTFA the real number system and the notion of a continuous real function of a real variable. The theory BTFA is able to prove the intermediate value theorem, wherefore it follows that the system of real numbers is a real closed ordered field. However over the last century, evidence has accumulated arguing that extra‐ocular tissues in vertebrates influence behavior through non‐image‐forming photoreception. One such class of extra‐ocular light detectors are the (...) long mysterious deep brain photoreceptors. Com este artigo pretende-se argumentar pela possibilidade de uma escrita historiográfica em instância memorial, fazendo valer argumentos já esgrimidos por Ortega y Gasset, agora revistos criticamente desde uma base pragmatista. Pretende-se igualmente dar uma primeira resposta ao problema da relação de prioridade entre a história e a vida, mostrando que a vida tem desde logo um sentido historial.

The recent pandemic and consequent lockdown had a substantial impact on mental health and optimism regarding the future. Previous research showed that levels of depression, anxiety, and stress had increased throughout the pandemic. Nonetheless, how individuals cope when faced with adversity may be associated with positive expectations regarding the future. A sample of 274 Portuguese workers with a mean age of 40.86 and work experience of 19.68 years met inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the proposed study. They represented (...) a variety of working classes. We investigated the associations between depression, stress, anxiety, adaptive and maladaptive coping, and optimism while controlling for working experience, gender, and work type. We found that depression was related to lower levels of optimism. However, for participants scoring high on adaptive coping and anxiety, higher scores of optimism were reported. Gender, work type, and experience did not significantly influence the results. These results provide evidence through which positive mental health can be promoted after the pandemic. (shrink)

Todas as sociedades possuem uma cultura que dita as regras de ser e de estar em sociedade. A cultura é uma das práticas mais importantes da afirmação da identidade de um povo. As culturas mudam à medida que a sociedade se adapta aos novos modelos de vida. Em muitos casos, o que provoca mudanças é o contato entre povos fazendo com que um grupo assimila práticas do outro. A pesquisa visou compreender a problemática da violência contra as mulheres idosas em (...) São Tomé e Príncipe. Quanto à metodologia a pesquisa usou uma abordagem qualitativa usando como instrumentos de coleta entrevista e o questionário que foram aplicadas em três instituições de acolhimento de pessoas idosas. Da pesquisa se conclui que os idosos em STP merecem respeito por parte da sociedade da política em especial. Concluiu-se que as idosas precisam de ser respeitadas nas suas identidades para que vivam os seus dias com saúde mental adequada. A falta de políticas públicas da proteção dos idosos é preocupante em STP e seria importante que houvesse intervenção rápida do poder público. (shrink)

Henri Lefebvre, em O Direito à Cidade, afirmou que a cidade desde a Idade Clássica foi um objeto especial para o pensamento filosófico: a própria filosofia nasceu na cidade. Outra questão, destacou, seria pensar em um direito à cidade, como direito à vida urbana, transformada, renovada, um direito em formação que ainda não teria entrado nos códigos formalizados. Esse conceito, criado pouco antes de Maio de 1968 e empregado por diversos movimentos sociais desde o fim da década de 1960 até (...) os dias atuais, inclusive no Brasil, foi depois discutido, entre outros autores, por David Harvey. No entanto, esses autores não realizaram exatamente uma articulação com a filosofia do Direito. O artigo tem como objetivo apontar algumas possibilidades dessa articulação, à luz dos movimentos relativos à reforma urbana e ao direito moradia no Brasil, e do processo internacional de criação desse direito. Desse modo, apresentamos os elementos essenciais que caracterizam a teologia da pregação, no período da Escolástica Barroca a partir do sermão das chagas de São Francisco. Neste sermão (...) o padre Antonio Vieira reconhece em Francisco de Assis a segunda estampa de Cristo crucificado. Além disso, discute as questões das paixões da alma na sua relação com os sentidos humanos e apresenta a unio mystica como expressão da conversão. Assim, no âmbito de uma espiritualidade que, como aquela dos jesuítas, valoriza o conhecimento de si mesmo, o sermão permite notar como se articulam no discurso o elemento psicológico e cognitivo, os aspectos da memória e da imaginação, dos afetos e da inteligência com a finalidade de converter e persuadir. Research has demonstrated that policing is a stressful occupation and has a negative impact on police officers’ mental and physical health, performance, and interactions with citizens. Mental health at the workplace has become a concern due to the costs of depression, anxiety, burnout, and even suicide, which is high among police officers.To ameliorate occupational health, it is crucial therefore to identify stress and burnout levels on a regular basis. However, the instruments frequently used to measure stress have not valorized the (...) specificity of policing tasks. This study aims: i) conducting a literature review, to identify questionnaires used to assess occupational stress and burnout among police officers; ii) to analyze the psychometric characteristics of a Portuguese version of Operational Police Stress Questionnaire (PSQ-Op); and, using the PSQ-op and other questionnaires, iii) to identify operational stress, burnout, and distress levels among Portuguese police officers. The literature review identified 108 studies, which use a multiplicity of questionnaires to measure burnout or occupational stress among police officers, but few studies use specific police stress questionnaires. Sample sizes were mostly below 500 participants and studies were mainly developed in the last decade in the USA and Brazil, but also in another 24 countries, showing the extent of the interest in this topic. This study applied to 2057 police officers from National Portuguese Police, a force policing urban centers, the PSQ-Op, as well the Spanish Burnout Inventory and the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale.The results show that the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of PSQ-Op are adequate. Factorial analysis revealed two dimensions defined as social and work issues, which were associated with measures of distress and burnout.Fit indices suggested a second-order solution called operational police stress. Overall, and considering the scale range of each questionnaire, the results showed moderate values of operational stress, distress, and burnout. However, considering their cut-off points, 85% of the sample presented high operational stress levels, 11% critical values for burnout, and 28% high distress levels, with 55% of the sample at risk of psychological disorder. These results reinforce the need to prevent stress and to invest in police officers’ occupational health. (shrink)

The concept of corporal image includes how own body, taking into account their constituent parts, as well as the feelings related the those characteristics. The entrance in academica life provokes alterations in the feeding behavior, and the exposition to the new social environment they can bring as consequence an increase in dissatisfaction. Objective: To investigate the satisfaction with the body image and eating behavior of academics at a university center. Methods: For data collection, the following instruments were used. The evaluation (...) was performed with anthropometric measurements, as size and weight measurements. In order to diagnose the nutritional status, the body mass index was used. In order to evaluate the study variables; we used the Body Checking questionnaires Questionnaire. Male Body Checking Questionnaire, Body Shape Questionnaire and EAT-26. Results: According to the Body Mass Index, the female gender had a higher rate of adequacy (70.4%), in relation to the masculine (58,9%). The EAT-26 questionnaire showed that 85% of male engineering students presented risk for Feeding Disorders, in relation to the female psychology (89.8%). Conclusion: In terms of feeding behavior, the women scored higher than men, which suggests a higher susceptibility to Feeding Disorders development in men. (shrink)

System analyses deal with interrelationships between different variables that keep the system in balance. In many analysis of complex thinking, a system is viewed as a complex unit in which the ‘whole’ is not reduced to the ‘sum’ of its parts; the system becomes an ambiguous item because it consists of several entities that interact with unforeseen results or, in other words, it is situated at a transdisciplinary level, it is impossible for an area to have a complete reading of (...) its complexity. It was also mentioned that the concept of the open system best describes complexity by stating that ‘the laws of the organization are not equilibrium, but an imbalance that is restored or compensated for by stabilized dynamics’. This idea originated from the field of thermodynamics and the second law, in which the imbalance that it maintains allows the system for an apparent balance. This fragile steady state has something of a paradox, since the structures remain the same, but their constituents are changeable. The concept of open system undoes the door to a theory of evolution that can only derive from the interactions between a system and its ecosystem. Within this systemic approach, the focus of the analysis takes into account the ambiguity, multidisciplinary and complexity associated with system adjustment, i.e. it is intended to qualify an employee job based on their experience and knowledge as a measure of their impact on the organization performance. RESUMOO presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar os meandros da composição e suas intertextualidades na polêmica do samba entre Noel Rosa e Wilson Batista, observando o dialogismo na interação verbal e musical entre os autores e os diversos textos da década de 1930. Ao apurar os ouvidos sobre a "polêmica do samba" observa-se que as composições revelam tensões inexoráveis entre um mundo festivo do "malandro" e os limites da realidade da época. Desse modo, com suporte em estudos que tratam (...) deste tema, busca-se trazer à tona um insight sobre este "duelo" musical que está, certamente, muito mais disseminado na sociedade que restrito a questões puramente estéticas.ABSTRACTThe purpose of this paper is to analyze the meanders of composition and their intertextuality in the samba controversy between Noel Rosa and Wilson Batista. We observe dialogism in the verbal and musical interaction between the samba writers and several texts of the 1930s. When ears are in tune with the "samba controversy," one observes that the compositions reveal inexorable tensions between the festive world of the "malandro" and the limits of the reality of the time. Accordingly, based on studies that address this theme, we aim to present an insight into this musical "duel," which is not restricted to purely aesthetics issues, but certainly disseminated in society. This article reflects on childhood times based on the words chrónos, kairós and aión, which the Greeks use to conceptualize time, in dialogue with different authors, such as Kohan, Pohlmann, Skliar, Kohan and Fernandes. In the pedagogical field, we explore how Pedagogy of Childhood has focused on the importance of childhood temporality and children’s agency, with contributions from Hoyuelos, Parrini, Aguilera et al., Barbosa, Oliveira-Formosinho e Araújo, Oliveira-Formosinho, Pinazza and Gobbi. We reflect on what forms of organizing time are (...) possible when we think about children and their childhoods. Would it be a continuous and chronological time, a time of opportunity for the instant or the timeless intensity of the aiónic? Would it be possible to open spaces in school for other temporalities, given its immersion in chronological time, and its extreme emphasis on routine? We seek a relationship between forms of temporality, philosophy, and early education in order to explore alternative possibilities in the relationship between child and the school context, and conclude that, since the child’s is the aiónic time of intense experience, it is in the heightened dynamic immediacy and the multiple symbolic languages of play that it may be possible to create pedagogical structures that provide a dwelling for childhood temporality. O problema do ceticismo é colocado na seguinte questão: é possível obtero conhecimento como um todo? Há argumentos fortes que dizem quenão. Contudo,se nós não podemos justificar, conseqüentemente, não podemos aumentaro K genuíno. Assim, o problema é que, se podemos começar com argumentosdo ceticismo filosófico, que dizem que o K é impossível , então esses argumentos forçam a conexão de conhecimento (...) comjustificação para tentar refutar o ceticismo. Assim, o problema do ceticismoestá intimamente ligado com o problema da justificação. Podemos analisarse há um problema do ceticismo e se ele pode ser entendido comocolocamos inicialmente. Enfim, por que o problema do ceticismo é nossoproblema? Por que temos o ônus da prova? Não podemos inverter o ônusda prova para o cético?The issue of skepticism is put in the following question: is it possible togain knowledge as a whole? There are some strong arguments that sayno. For instance, although K can not rest over gross data, all argumentsmust start and finish somewhere. However, we cannot justify andconsequently enlarge the genuine K. The problem here is: if we can startwith arguments from the philosophical skepticism, the ones that say K is impossible , then such arguments impose that weconnect knowledge to justification on an attempt to refute skepticism. Theissue of skepticism is closely connected to the issue of justification. It ispossible to see whether or not there is a problem with skepticism or if itcan be understood according to our initial proposal. Finally, we ask: whyis the issue of skepticism our problem? A partir dos estudos de caso das cidades de Rio das Ostras, Conservatória e Rio de Janeiro, vem se avaliando a importância das atividades musicais realizadas ao vivo e nos espaços públicos e privados pelos atores para a ressignificação destas urbes do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Parte-se do pressuposto de que há uma cultura musical potente nestas localidades, praticada por diversos atores capaz de criar condições não só para a ampliação da sociabilidade, mas também para a ressignificação inovadora das (...) dinâmicas dessas urbes. Um pouco distinto da noção de “cidades musicais”, emprega-se este conceito para designar localidades que possuem “territorialidades sônico-musicais” significativas que vêm promovendo expressivas modificações no imaginário e cotidiano urbano. Research teams have used extra-uterine systems to support premature fetal lambs and to bring them to maturation in a way not previously possible. The researchers have called attention to possible implications of these systems for sustaining premature human fetuses in a similar way. Some commentators have pointed out that perfecting these systems for human fetuses might alter a standard expectation in abortion practices: that the termination of a pregnancy also entails the death of the fetus. With Biobags, it might be (...) possible, some argue, that no woman has the right to expect that outcome if the technology is able to sustain fetal life _after_ an abortion. In order to protect the expectation that the termination of a pregnancy always entails the death of the fetus, Elizabeth Romanis has argued that fetuses sustained in Biobags have a status different than otherwise ‘born’ children. In support of that view, she argues that these ‘gestatelings’ are incapable of independent life. This argument involves a misunderstanding of the gestational support involved, as well as a misapprehension of neonatology practice. Here, we argue that any human fetus sustained in a Biobag would be as ‘independent’ as any other premature infant, and just as ‘born’. Neonatologists would seem to have certain presumptive moral responsibilities toward any human fetus gestating in a Biobag. It remains a separate question whether the perfection and widespread application of Biobags for premature human beings would or should alter the expectation that ending a pregnancy also entails fetal death. Elise Crull claims that by invoking decoherence it is possible to obviate many “fine grained” issues often conflated under the common designation of measurement problem, and to make substantial progresses in the fields of quantum gravity and quantum cosmology, without any early incorporation of a particular interpretation in the quantum formalism. We point out that Crull is mistaken about decoherence and tacitly assumes some kind of interpretation of the quantum formalism.

In this article we will focus our attention on the variety of distributive bisemilattices and some linguistic expansions thereof: bounded, De Morgan, and involutive bisemilattices. After extending Balbes’ representation theorem to bounded, De Morgan, and involutive bisemilattices, we make use of Hartonas–Dunn duality and introduce the categories of 2spaces and 2spaces\. The categories of 2spaces and 2spaces\ will play with respect to the categories of distributive bisemilattices and De Morgan bisemilattices, respectively, a role analogous to the category of Stone spaces (...) with respect to the category of Boolean algebras. Actually, the aim of this work is to show that these categories are, in fact, dually equivalent. (shrink)

An ontology of Leibnizian relationalism, consisting in distance relations among sparse matter points and their change only, is well recognized as a serious option in the context of classical mechanics. In this paper, we investigate how this ontology fares when it comes to general relativistic physics. Using a Humean strategy, we regard the gravitational field as a means to represent the overall change in the distance relations among point particles in a way that achieves the best combination of being simple (...) and being informative.
